Garage Door Wars

We are having a continuing issue with our neighbors backing into our garage door. The first time is wasn't an issue as the door was wood, had dry rot and was infested with termites. We replaced it with a metal door. A year later the neighbor's daughter backed into the door and gave us a small dent. We raised a fuss but didn't do anything other than that. Two weeks ago one of them backed into it mid day. They dented the lower two panels and bent an interior hinge and roller assembly. When the door went up next, it snapped the spring assembly at the top. This is a closed spring & cable assembly. There is no fixing it, you just replace it along with the side tracts. That part is $497.00 then the two lower panels are about $700.00 each to replace. Add the labor and freight and it is almost $2400.00 to fix. I bargained with the repair man and he discounted a new door for $1400.00 installed.

Now for the next installment. I have purchased this neat motion activated security camera so that when they do it again we can prove that they did the damage and make them pay to replace the next one. This thing is cool. It records to the wireless DVR box. It will record 62 hours of video and it ranges from 10 Sec (default), 30 Sec and 2 Min. The camera has infrared for nighttime recording.

  1. Hope this works. HOPE the resolution is good enough for clear ID of a license plate., some are not. I hate when neighbors are like this and don't own up to their crap!

  4. Sounds like you may be in for another incident in a year based on the pattern. I hope not, but if so, I'm glad you're prepared.
